What does the average social media professional make?

Curious to find this answer, I did the research! Here's what I found:

Let's start with the key findings:

I looked at averages for the top six types of professionals, which included social media 

  1. Consultant

  2. Manager

  3. Coordinator 

  4. Specialist 

  5. Strategist

  6. Analyst 

*Each organization defines these differently, so keep in mind

there may be some variance.

The average salary for a social media consultant is $50,000 USD per year.

The average salary for a social media manager is $50,000 USD per year.

The average salary for a social media coordinator is $40,000 USD per year.

The average salary for a social media specialist is $45,000 USD per year.

The average salary for a social media strategist is $52,000 USD per year.

The average salary for a social media analyst is $53,000 USD per year.

It's also worth noting:

  • On average, social media analysts are paid the most

  • On average, social media coordinators earn the least

  • Social media consultants had the largest range for pay increase,

  • Social media coordinators had the smallest range for pay increase, 

  • Social media coordinator had the lowest average starting salary

  • Social media analysts had the highest average starting salary

  • The average salary across all disciplines, ranges and experience levels is $48,000 / year USD

  • The average salary range across all disciplines, ranges and experience levels is $29,000 - $76,000

Good statistics require sources and information! Key disclosures to know:

  • a Google search yielded these results on a Mac computer originating in Guelph, Ontario on February 17, 2022,

  • Numbers were rounded down to whole thousand

  • Salaries were based on predominantly American data,

  • Data was pulled from Zip Recruiter, GlassDoor and PayScale as they had the highest search rankings, and displayed all the data sought after for this report.

  • Salaries are displayed in US Dollars and for US companies, and

  • There were many other job titles, but the top 6 were used.
